Who is the Wizard that puts Zelda to sleep?

Eddie Senn

November 14, 2017

One of the more endearing debates of the Zelda world is the wizard who put Zelda into a deep sleep in the events that lead up to Zelda II: Adventure of Link. In this theory, I will lay out all the evidence and draw a logical conclusion, based not only on the evidence provided but also on my extensive knowledge of Hyrulian history and deep insight into the events which preceded this tragic event.

The Idea(s)

A servant of Ganon, the primary antagonist of the story and one of the most powerful beings in the Zelda folklore

An independent trouble maker, which may seem like a “Deus ex machina” solution, but hey, these things happen in fantasy

Agahnim of LttP, a powerful dark wizard who assumes the role of the secondary antagonist before it turns out that he is the alter-ego of the demon Ganon

My Theory

sleepIf we look at the evidence, there are three possible answers to the question at hand. Either the Wizard was a servant of Ganon, or it was and independent troublemaker, or even Agahnim of LttP. The latter, however, is unlikely because, at the end of each wizards’ tale, they died. This Wizard of natural causes, and Agahnim at the hands of Link. The only evidence that could corroborate that the wizard was Agahnim is that they both minds controlled those around them. The Wizard, the Prince, and Agahnim the Palace Guards.

However, as for whether the Wizard worked for Ganon or not, there is no set evidence either way. After Zelda fell victim to a deep sleep, and the Wizard died, rumors spread across the towns of Hyrule that he worked for the King of Evil, but those are only rumors and not significant proof. Thus, the question of whether the Wizard worked for Ganon is unanswered.

Conclusion- My conclusion is this, that the Wizard was not Agahnim, but a mysterious man that was under direct control of Ganon, much like Agahnim was. I say this because Ganon harbored a known hatred of Zelda after being foiled by her in LttP and the Oracles Series (according to our timeline). It would only be logical that it’d be he that would strike against her and put her to her long slumber.

The land of Hyrule has seen many ages since its genesis eons ago. It has seen Kingdoms rise and fall, great wars and strife cause suffering, destined heroes defeat mighty evils and other events that would take volumes to detail in full. As part of the Compendium, the Chronicles contain a vast illustration of the times and events that have shaped the land of Hyrule since the Creation. From the very beginning, with the creation of the world, to the Imprisoning War, Cataclysm Eve, and all the way up to the Great Flood and beyond, the Chronicles is your definitive source for the chronology of the Zelda Series.

Hyrule is a legendary land, blessed with tall mountains, dense forests, clean streams and wide meadows. Great cities lie across this land, and many different peoples and races feel that Hyrule is their home. Kingdom of Hyrule has a long history, spanning millennia, which encompasses great and lengthy wars, iconic kings and heroes and evil villains. This is a magical country, inhabited by various magical beings.

zeldaWe can only begin to tell you about the history of Hyrule, about the Ancient Battle or the Battle of the Sacred Realm. Then came the War of the Bound Chest, followed by the massacres of the Hyrulean Civil War. Many more conflicts plagued this beautiful country, and it took a while for periods of peace to stabilize the order of the King.

Chronicles will not only provide information about the political history of Hyrule, here you will be able to learn how the Hyrulean society was structured. Also, you will learn about the most significant gods and other deities, about the major temples and cities. Furthermore, you can see how the government was organized and how the military shaped the events in the land of Hyrule. Finally, the Chronicles also contain information about the economy, technology and social order in the cities across this magical land, and many chapters which describe the geography of Hyrule.

If you want to know more about the rich history of Hyrule, the best starting point are certainly the Chronicles.

Adventure games benefits

Even though many people wouldn’t agree, playing games are actually very beneficial, especially if you choose right game for yourself. Developing functions of the brain is the main benefit above all.  Of course including cases where game players are not spending every single second of the day staring at the computer. There are some general benefits for which most of the game playing world members would agree.

Making faster decisions

Often areas you may find in adventure games are the once which require from you to make fast decisions. When this is constantly it becomes a nature function of your brain. To solve some problems and complete levels you have to think three steps ahead and use all possible logic. It showed to be of great help for children in adult age using their logic and exactness with the ability to think outside of the box.

Improves multitasking skills

The conclusion is made by many studies that the more person plays games more likely he is improving his multitasking skills. Keeping target on the screen, responding to lights, listening to radio communication and monitoring more areas at a time are usual things required, and they result in high performance of brain skills. Reading maps is the usual content of mystery and adventure games which benefits a lot in real life also.

Overcoming dyslexia

Though dyslexia doesn’t affect the general intelligence of a person, it affects by reducing brain’s ability to read and learn symbols and in most cases is a result of problems in visual attention. When you play adventure or action games, it makes you focus attention more efficiently to extract relevant information of a written word more rapidly. Fundamental tasks involve the need for crossmodal attention ( the distribution of attention to different senses), and by gaming, it is improved within many people with dyslexia. The result is they learn to shift their attention with greater ease. It is believed and proved that more and more video games are training brain parts responsible for attention and motion perception.

Improves concentration

focusFocusing your brain on performing difficult tasks will require higher levels of concentration. Studies found that adventure games can stimulate neurogenesis which means growing of new neurons. As a result of thicker and better neuron connectivity brain areas are upgraded to higher intelligence, consciousness, strategic planning and memory formation. All these developments made easier to game players to concentrate on requested higher levels in particular game tasks.

Reduces impulsiveness and stress

Means that a person playing adventure games will less respond to the non target stimulus. Rather person will learn to respond to the exact stimulus when it’s needed. Playing may also reduce the level of depression and stress. And not only is concluded that gaming helps to reduce your stress it is used as a form of therapy today for people who suffer from wide range mental health issues. It is discovered that gaming is significantly reducing levels of stress hormone cortisol.
